About Root + Reef Interiors
Root + Reef Interiors is a small editorial team writing honest, style-specific buying guides for home furnishings. No sponsorships. No manufacturer payments. No press trips. Our only commercial relationship is affiliate partnerships with retailers — disclosed on every post, and described in full below.
Our editorial process
Every guide follows the same pipeline. We start with a specific query a real shopper would type — not a brand we've been asked to cover. For each pick:
- Style criteria first.Japandi means cream upholstery and light-wood legs. Mid-century means tapered or splayed legs in warm walnut. We define the criteria per style and reject anything that doesn't match, even if it's a bestseller.
- Visual review.We look at every candidate's product images — including the room scene, not just the catalog shot. If there's no lifestyle photo, we skip it.
- Live availability check. Every product listed has been confirmed as in-stock with a working Add-to-Cart button at the time of writing. We refresh prices hourly so nothing goes stale.
- No flops.If a pick can't be found live at publish time, we swap it and re-verify — we don't ship a guide with a dead link.
Affiliate disclosure
When you click a product link on this site and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Commissions come from retailer affiliate programs (primarily Amazon Associates) and from Sovrn Commerce, an affiliate network that handles wrapping for retailers including Wayfair, Target, Crate & Barrel, West Elm, CB2, Article, and others.
What commissions do not do:influence which products we pick or how we describe them. We've disqualified plenty of high-commission listings for poor styling, unreliable sellers, or dead stock. If a pick is genuinely the best one at its price tier, we say so — whether or not we get paid on it.
Prices and availability
Prices are refreshed hourly via a scraper that checks live product pages. If a price shown on this site is more than a few hours old, it's because a retailer is actively changing it. Final price at checkout is the source of truth — always verify on the retailer's page before purchasing.
Who writes this
Posts are published under the name “Root + Reef Editors.” That's intentional — we'd rather tell you how a pick was evaluated than pin a byline on a face. Editorial voice, style criteria, and quality gates are consistent across everything we publish, so the guide you read today follows the same standards as the guide published a year ago.
